Why Menopause Help Is
Necessary
The menopause years are physically nerve wracking and
emotionally debilitating.
The entire
process, from pre menopause to post menopause, can take as many
as fifteen years. For many women, it may take far longer. With
such symptoms as severe mood swings and even depression,
menopause help is not only necessary, it is beneficial to a lot
of women. You simply cannot go through this alone. Nor should
you ever have to go through this by yourself.
However, many women do. They are surrounded by their
husbands and children, who do not understand what their wives
and mothers are going through, and simply cannot understand why
they are so irritable and sensitive. For whatever reason, they
are often impatient with and bewildered by their menopausal
loved ones. In turn, this can make menopausal women feel lonely
and terribly isolated. They feel completely misunderstood,
which only increases the risk of depression. Fortunately, there
are a lot of places where you can find help.
First off, let us discuss possible avenues of menopausal
help as it applies to the symptoms. For instance, did you know
that there are a number of things you can do to reduce the
intensity – and the very prevalence – of hot flashes and night
sweats? You can do them all by yourself, in fact! First off,
you need to change the way you
dress. If
it is cold outside, or even just cool, think about dressing in
layers. When it is warm, wear lightweight, loose clothing; stay
away from anything too tight or form fitting. That way, if you
start getting a hot flash, you can simply shed some layers and
get cooler. You should start drinking cold beverages in lieu of
hot ones. For that matter, stay away from things like tea,
coffee, and sodas that have a lot of caffeine. Caffeine can
greatly exacerbate these symptoms. Alcohol can too, so try to
stay away from alcoholic drinks and cocktails as well, or at
least cut down on them. You can also help yourself out a lot
when you sleep. Keep the temperature of your bedroom cool and
comfortable. Make sure that your covers are lightweight as well
– or do not sleep with any covers at all. You can always leave
some folded down at the bottom of your bed.
Vitamins can also provide a lot of help
during menopause, and not just in women who are not interested
in hormone replacement therapy either. For example, vitamin E
may be able to reduce hot flashes. Vitamin D and eating foods
high in calcium can help reduce the risk of osteoporosis, which
becomes a dangerous possibility among women going through
menopause. Staying active and adopting a good exercise regime
can be very beneficial as well.
However, the area in which most women need to seek
menopausal help is the emotional area. There are so many
emotions you have to deal with at this point in your life. The
mood swings, the irritability, the depression – it all gets to
be too much, especially when the people close to you just do
not understand. To that end, support groups comprised of other
menopausal women can be invaluable. All you really have to do
to form a support group is gather together a group of women who
you know and who are also going through menopause. You can vent
about your feelings, discuss what you are going through, and
more importantly, simply be there for each other. Sympathy and
empathy are extremely helpful.
