How Menopause Weight Loss Can
be Attained
Gaining weight during your menopausal years is a given. On
the average, most
women gain about 10 to 15
pounds during the menopausal process. Mind you, that includes
pre menopause, perimenopause, and actual menopause itself. The
weight you gain during this period of your life is decidedly
different than the weight you gain before menopause. Women in
their twenties and thirties put weight on in a much different
way. Their extra pounds are concentrated around their hips,
thighs, and – well, their behinds, to put it bluntly.
Conversely, during menopause, your weight goes to your
abdomen. Worst of all, it is hormone related, which can make
menopause weight loss very difficult. In fact, some women are
of the opinion that it is impossible. Actually, a lot of people
believe that losing weight during menopause simply cannot be
done. That is not entirely true, though. The fact that this
weight goes on gradually – a pound or so a year on average –
makes it difficult to believe that you absolutely cannot lose
weight during the menopausal process.
In truth, it is very unhealthy for you
to simply assume that you cannot take those off those extra
pounds. People who think something is impossible thinks that
gives them an excuse not to try. In this case, that attitude
puts your health at stake. You see, you could wind up with
abdominal obesity – far too much belly weight, in other words.
That puts you at a much higher risk for such health problems as
diabetes, hypertension, certain types of cancers, and
cardiovascular diseases. Furthermore, when you put of on
menopausal weight, your cholesterol can get much too high. We
have estrogen – or, rather, a lack of it – to thank for this as
well. That puts you at further risk for heart disease.
The good news is, no matter what other
people tell you, there are several healthy ways to manage,
control, and even lose weight during menopause. Most of the
ways you can do so simply involve making different lifestyle
choices. You see, menopausal women tend to take in far more
calories than they need. During stressful and/or emotionally
trying times, they turn to comfort foods. However, as you well
know, many menopausal women also lack energy. They are
exhausted a good deal of the time. They are not energetic
unless a particular mood swing makes them manic. Naturally,
that leads to a sedentary lifestyle. You are less active, which
means those additional calories are just sitting there.
So how can you control and ultimately lose this weight?
First of all, you need to just eat fewer calories. You have to
realize, your metabolism is not what it once was. It is much
slower. Eating less fats can be helpful as well. Make sure you
stay as active as you possibly can, even if you only take a
walk around the block a few times a weak. By maintaining an
active lifestyle and a healthy, nutritious diet, you can also
stave off mood swings and depression.
